The Geography team at Riddlesdown aim to deliver a holistic approach to understanding the world. This is delivered through a curriculum which explores issues at a range of scales from local to global. It is vital that students understand the world around them by developing skills and empathy in order to be able to appreciate events.
Students will focus on developing an understanding of patterns and processes, places, sustainability and enquiry. We aim to develop resilient students that are able to independently solve problems and explore global issues. Throughout Key Stage Three students will follow a thematic approach through considering scale based issues. Year 7 will focus on the Geography of the UK, Year 8 will examine regional issues with Year 9 developing a wider appreciation of global issues including development and globalisation.
At Key Stage Four students follow the OCR B specification considering a balance of human and physical geography with a focus on sustainability and decision making.
At Key Stage Five students follow the Edexcel specification developing an understanding of current world issues that are affecting the planet today and in the future, preparing students for the 21st century planet.
